Maruti, which is the leading car manufacturer of India, has its presence in almost all the segments of Indian car industry, with the exception of crossover segment. This segment has seen a lot of action of late, as most of the major automakers have launched or are planning to launch their product in this segment. As the competition is heating up day by day, Maruti has also decided to join the war by introducing a crossover named S-Cross SX4. Despite being the leading carmaker of the nation, Maruti is yet to prove its mettle in this segment. However, going by the enviable record of Maruti in other segments, it should not be surprising if this car too becomes a best seller.
Here is a sneak peek at the upcoming vehicle from Maruti:
The S-Cross SX4 was first unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. This car, initially developed and manufactured in association with Fiat, is into its third generation now. The crossover is based on the familiar sedan SX4, which debuted in 2006. The S-Cross SX4 comes adorned in a three-piece black colored grille, with the Suzuki logo fixed prominently in the centre. Other notable features on the exterior include daytime LEDs, black plastic cladding running along the base and under the number plate holder, and the doors with a dash of silver. The roofline is slightly altered, in contrast with the previous edition. The latest edition comes with sharper features and newly designed tail bumpers as well. The black cladding is also running along the span of the rear bumper.
On the inside, the car will feature regular fittings like steering wheel, various gauges, gearbox, stalks and the buttons will be laid down in the same arrangement as in case of other Maruti cars like Swift. The S-Cross SX4 is reasonably spacious and if needed, the rear seat can be folded to accommodate more luggage.
The S-Cross SX4 will offer one diesel and one petrol engine. The diesel engine is a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit capable of producing a maximum power of 120 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The power is transmitted via six-speed manual transmission system. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.6-litre engine that generates a peak power of 120 bhp and top torque of 156 Nm. The power transmission to the wheels is carried out either by a five speed manual gearbox, or a CVT gearbox.
Getting ready for a launch in the month of February 2015, the S-Cross SX4 will carry a price tag of 8.0 lakh to 14.0 lakh rupees. It will fight it out with rivals like Mahindra XUV500, Mahindra Scorpio, Renault Duster and the Ford EcoSport for market share.
